In celebration of National Chess Day, The Tulane Chess Club, in collaboration with Downriver Chess Club of New Orleans, presents the First Annual Tulane Quick Championship!

Tournament details: Five round, three-section (Open, U1600/unrated, & U1200), swiss system, G/20;d5, USCF quick-rated tournament.

Registration: Register here to guarantee your spot and early bird rate! Limited amount of registrations available at the door.

Prize fund: Prize fund is $600 b/60. $100 will be added to the prize fund for every ten entries above 60. Prize fund breakdown as follows:

1st in open, $250

1st in U1600/unrated, $100

1st in U1200, $100

Largest upset prize, $50 per section

Sections: Sections include open, U1600/unrated, and U1200. Sections may be merged at TD discretion to better balance entrants.

Tiebreaks: Cash prizes to be split among all tied entrants.

Date: Saturday, October 14, registration 9:30AM-10:15AM, first round pairs at 10:30AM. Please do not enter the tournament hall prior to 9:30AM.

Round times: 10:30AM, 12:00PM, [meal break], 2:00PM, 3:10PM, 4:20PM, prizes at 5:30PM. Round times are tentative and subject to change.

Venue: The Kendall Cram Room, on the second floor of the Lavin-Bernick Center at Tulane University.

Parking: Parking permits are not required in most parking zones on Tulane University campus during the weekend. For ease, we recommend using the Diboll Garage. Diboll Garage is a short walk from the Lavin-Bernick Center and has plenty of space available for our attendees. Consult the annotated parking map here.

Pairing: The TDs will assign you to your section. If you have a quick rating, that rating will be used. If you only have a regular or blitz rating, the highest rating will be used. If you are paired in a lower section but would like to play in the open, please indicate that upon registration. You may check your section upon registration. Unrated players do not qualify for an upset prize and will be assigned to the U1600/unrated section. Unrated players may play in the U1200 if they agree to forfeit all prize money.

Eligibility: $20 entry fee if purchased by 10/12/23. $30 at the door. Capacity limited to first 120 players, pre-register to guarantee your slot. Equipment: A small amount of chess equipment will be provided. If you have a chess set and clock, please bring it!

Bye policy: Two 0.5 point byes available upon request, must be made prior to pairing round three in non-emergency situations. Bye requests cannot be cancelled following the start of round 3.
