ALAAMEA Alliance Faculty and Staff Gathering: Learning about Black and Indigenous Roots of Carnival Culture in New Orleans

We invite you to join us in a special celebratory gathering of the ALAAMEA community, where we learn about the Black and indigenous roots of Mardi Gras culture in New Orleans. Dr. Judith Maxwell opens our gathering with a land blessing and honoring, Dr. Rosanne Adderly gives brief remarks on these roots. We have special musical guests and a speaker share the experience of masking in Mardi Gras Indian culture. We end with some time in break-out groups to share our long-established or new Mardi Gras traditions and how we are shifting these in pandemic times.
