Concussions are prominent in all types of sports, especially within contact sports.  Concussions affect athletes of any age and can have major implications when they are not recognized, diagnosed correctly, or treated appropriately. Often, athletic trainers function independently without access to all the appropriate disciplines to maximize an athlete’s return to full function.  It is known that concussions can cause issues with physical activity, learning and daily tasks, as well as socialization.  This symposium will allow sports medicine healthcare professionals to identify concussions with complex recoveries which can lead to lost time at school or work, inability to participate in sports and recreational activities, and a host of other difficulties.  By gaining knowledge about and understanding the process of using a multidisciplinary management approach for athletes impacted by a concussion sports medicine healthcare professionals will promote optimal recovery and outcomes for the athletes in their care.
