Design Symposium 2023

Uptown Campus
The Rathskeller Lounge

The Design Symposium is an annual student-curated lecture and workshop series, seeking to address critical concerns in design and contemporary architectural thought and practice. Held at the Tulane School of Architecture in New Orleans, Louisiana, this year’s symposium will take place in the Spring 2023 semester. We have tentatively selected the weekend of March 25-26th, as the dates of our symposium this year

This year, we are exploring the roles of materiality and representational mediums within the disciplines of architecture and design. Advancements in representational techniques and material expressions in the design practice have been furthered alongside our increasingly digital world. This allows new methods of functionality and conceptual transference through tactile and digital media. This era of evolution sets the stage for designers to shape the future of the built environment and address its challenges through innovative and forward thinking techniques. We are looking to curate an event that can broaden the perspectives and theoretical understanding of materiality and modes of design communication for our school of architecture student body and the broader community!
