Doctoral student writing retreats offer the opportunity for students to focus their work on a writing project and create an opportunity to build community with other doctoral students. Participants can find support, new ideas, and recommendations from other students when they discuss their projects. The structured schedule and check-ins build accountability and can breathe new energy into a stagnating project.
The retreat begins with a check-in during which participants describe their goals for the day. This will take place in a large classroom on 12th floor of Tidewater with masks and social distancing. In the morning there will be 3 to 4 sessions of working for 45 minutes and break for 15 minutes. During the writing periods, students will be asked to return to private offices or find an empty classroom. During the 15 minutes participants are encouraged to socialize outside or in a large classroom with masks and social distancing, or take a walk outside, relax, meditate, etc. A Zoom call will also be opened during the 15 minute break period for students participating remotely or for those that would rather join over a call. Lunch will be a full hour break. Food will be provided to in-person attendees; participants will be encouraged to eat outside or back in private offices. Individually packaged snacks will be available throughout the day. Several more rounds of writing periods and breaks will resume after lunch.
Dates for retreats are: Friday Feb 5th, Saturday Feb 27th, Friday March 26th, Saturday April 17th.
