Free Virtual Workshop: Biased by Design? AI and Health Equity

Artificial intelligence is already making decisions that affect who receives care, who gets flagged for risk, and whose health data is collected, stored, and sold. But how these systems are built, who builds them, and what values are encoded in their design are questions that rarely reach the communities most affected by the answers.

This workshop puts those questions at the center. Through real-world case studies drawn from health systems, public health practice, and community experience, participants will examine how AI tools can reinforce existing bias even when deployed with good intentions. Interactive group discussions will move beyond awareness into action, equipping learners to critically assess the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI in their own professional contexts, including questions of algorithmic bias, data privacy, and accountability when systems cause harm.

This workshop empowers public health providers to engage with AI with intentionality to mitigate the inherent biases built into AI systems.
