Fridays at Newcomb: Disability and Reality Television

Dr. Krystal Cleary is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Communication and Program of Gender and Sexuality Studies at Tulane University. Her research and teaching interests include disability studies, media studies, and intersectional feminist and queer theory. Her current project considers how the legacy of the American freak show is being restaged and revised in contemporary media texts with a focus on disability as an analytic in reality television. Dr. Cleary's work has appeared in Disability Studies QuarterlyFeminist Media Histories, and the edited collection Disability Media Studies (NYU Press, 2017).
