The Office of Sustainability and Tulane Hospitality are excited to announce the second Gearshift event on December 3 at the Garage in the Hub from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This event will feature different sustainable facets of the holiday season. We will offer a tasting of sustainable non-alcoholic beverage as well as hosting a “re-gift” items swap. Where individuals can bring items, they are no longer used- such as books, school supplies, or even clothing. We will also have Grounds Krewe visiting for this event. Grounds Krewe will be providing attendees with the opportunity to pack sustainable Mardi Gras throws.

Special to this seasonal event, we are excited to announce Trash to Treasure, SAFI, and Food Recovery Network as guests. In 2025, Trash to Treasure and partners diverted over 35,000 pounds of goods to reuse during move-out. For 2026, the coalition aims to more than double those diversions. Volunteers are essential to making the program work. Trash to Treasure will be providing attendees with a volunteer interest form for Spring 2026 move-out.

The Office of Sustainability, Tulane Hospitality, and Trash to Treasure are joining forces to address food insecurity this holiday season by sponsoring SAFI and the Food Recovery Network. For every 10 people that sign up to volunteer during the Trash to Treasure spring move-out, Tulane Hospitality will donate the equivalent of 50 meals to the Students Against Food Insecurity food pantry!

Please share with your networks and bring items for the regifting swap.

The next event in the series will be in early 2026. Stay tuned and come by to meet us and reach out if your organization would like to collaborate for a spring event.

Please contact Jordan Stewart at jstewar6@tulane.edu or 504-862-8079 at least one week in advance of the event if you have accessibility needs and need a disability-related accommodation to participate.
