Faraz Shariat’s Futur Drei (No Hard Feelings, 2020) is a film that relays the vicissitudes of life in the diaspora and in the refugee system as the queer German-Iranian protagonist navigates daily life in Germany. Dr. Ervin Malakaj’s lecture will expound upon the German-Iranian aesthetics at the core of the film via the various film styles employed.

Dr. Ervin Malakaj specializes in late-18th- to 21st-century German media and cultural history. His research at the University of British Columbia focuses on 19th-century literary cultures, film studies, queer studies, and humanities as well as language learning advocacy.

A catered reception will follow the lecture. There will be a screening of Futur Drei the week before Dr. Malakaj's lecture, on Wednesday April 1 at 5:00 PM in Howard Tilton 116.
