Global Perspectives - Urban Wildlife

Uptown Campus
Online

This Global Perspectives event focuses on Scandinavia (see summer study abroad in Stockholm).

Bats are the only truly flying mammals in the world! Even though there are eight different species present in the cities of Copenhagen and Stockholm, they often go unnoticed. Inger Kærgaard, guest faculty member for Tulane Summer in Stockholm program, will speak about her own research project that aims to give bats the attention they deserve, while also learning more about urban bat populations as an indicator of the health of the city. What is the meaning behind the buzzes and social calls of the bats of Copenhagen/Stockholm? How do their echolocations/vocalizations indicate how they are using the city (feeding, mating, chatting, commuting, etc.)?
