New Orleans Groundwater Model Workshop
This workshop presents a detailed groundwater model focused on the shallow urban subsurface of New Orleans, reaching depths of approximately 40 meters. Despite the city's vulnerability to land subsidence and water-related challenges, little is known about its shallow and deep groundwater systems. To address this gap, two studies were conducted: a regional assessment of deep groundwater and its connection to subsidence (Kooi et al., 2023), and a focused urban study on shallow groundwater flow.
The shallow groundwater model developed in this study provides a time-dependent understanding of phreatic groundwater levels, both under current conditions and future scenarios. It is designed to support groundwater management by simulating the effects of policy and environmental changes on the groundwater system and surface elevation. This workshop offers an in-depth look at the model, its capabilities, and its potential applications.
Participants will need to bring a laptop with a USB connection and Windows OS.
