Megan Ihnen and Alan Theisen Presents (dubbed MIATp) is an avant-pop band making voice/saxophone/electronic sound worlds that are ancient and futuristic, funky and fragile. It had its roots as a contemporary classical duo but now combines experimental music, multiple pop genres, and theater. With influences ranging from Björk to Sun Ra to Ligeti, MIATp shows have been praised as 'a fresh look at what it means to be artists in the 21st century.
MIATp's residency at Tulane will consist of three parts: Part one is a student reading session where they will workshop and rehearse Tulane student compositions leading to an audio recording of the students' works. Part two is a concert of MIATp curated works for a narrative multimedia concert entitled "Black Meridian" that will be free and open to the public. Part three is a roundtable discussion that will educate Tulane student composers as well as the New Orleans new music community about their craft and how to best tap into new music's collaborative nature for their career.
