SAAM Book Club- The Louis Ortega Survival Club

Join us for a thought-provoking book club discussion of The Luis Ortega Survival Club by Sonora Reyes, a powerful coming-of-age story that explores themes of survival, identity, and resilience.  Through the lens of the protagonist, Luis Ortega, we’ll dive into how individuals navigate the complexities of trauma, personal growth, and the impact of societal pressures. 

This book club aims to connect the struggles faced by the characters in the novel with real-world issues, particularly focusing on sexual violence within unique communities. We will explore how these communities experience and respond to violence, the impact of overlapping affiliations, and how social, familial, and global factors influence these experiences.
