Supporting the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe After Hurricane Ida – Discussion and Ideas

Uptown Campus

On August 29, 2021, Hurricane Ida directly hit the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes, causing extensive and catastrophic damage to their community.  This destruction has left most community members without homes to return to. In this panel discussion, Drs. Albert, Cheruiyot, and Kelley will highlight current recovery initiatives they are involved in and discuss ways to ethically support the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe (PACIT).

Panelists: Drs. Julie Albert (Associate Professor, Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering), Jelagat Cheruiyot (Professor of Practice, Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, Duren Professor, Newcomb-Tulane College), Laura Kelley (Department of History)
