Teaching and Learning with Rare Books

Discover how Tulane’s rare book collections can energize your teaching and spark student curiosity. This interactive workshop explores how rare books can be used across disciplines (from art and humanities to social sciences, professional fields and STEM), and educational levels to foster close observation, critical thinking, creativity, and meaningful engagement. Participants will learn how to design learning experiences that encourage close observation, critical thinking, and engagement with material culture.

• Explore how the material features of books—from bindings and illustrations to annotations and paper—can become powerful tools for inquiry, analysis and moments of wonder.

• Gain new ideas and resources for incorporating rare books and special collections materials into your courses.
