About the Visiting Pet Program:

Originally created in 1987, the Visiting Pet Program became an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in May 2000. As the only animal-assisted activity/therapy program in the Greater New Orleans Area, our volunteer handlers visit more than 20 area nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, and special facilities for children. All animals have been temperament tested during our bi-annual Pet/Handler evaluations and receive an annual health check by a veterinarian.
