TU AIGA Student Group | with educator and designer Meaghan Barry
Join Tulane AIGA for a virtual talk with designer and educator Meaghan Barry as she shares insights from her book Designing for Local Communities. We will discuss the ins and outs of freelance as a designer, from working with small businesses to making a local impact.
Meaghan Barry is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design and Chair of the Department of Art, Art History and Design at Oakland University, as well as Partner and Creative Director at Unsold Studio, an award-winning Detroit-based branding firm. Her research and practice challenge the "genericism" of the American visual landscape by advocating for design localism—a framework that restores agency to designers and visual dignity to local neighborhoods. Barry has earned over 30 design awards and global recognition, including the “Notable Woman in Design” by Crain’s Business Detroit. Barry holds an M.F.A. in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a B.F.A. in Communications Design from Pratt Institute.
