The Tulane Global Humanities Center will host its inaugural symposium on Tulane's campus on January 22-23, 2026.  The theme of the symposium is Global Port Cities.

Dr. Arjun Appadurai will deliver the keynote address.

Thursday, January 22, 2026:   

  • Opening: 2 – 2:15: Welcome: Brian Edwards 
  • Panel 1: 2:15 – 3:30pm: Vyjayanthi Rao & Brent Hayes Edwards
  • Keynote: 4-5:30pm: Arjun Appadurai  

 

Friday, January 23, 2026:  

  • Panel 2: 9-10:30am: Keller Easterling & Aarthi Janakiraman
  • Panel 3: 11-12:30 pm: Port Cities & Diaspora: Myriam J. A. Chancy and Yuri Herrera
  • Conversation: 3:30-4:30 pm: Jazz Panel Presented by New Orleans Jazz Museum
