Tulane University School of Medicine Department of Orthopaedics Ray J. Haddad, Jr. MD Memorial Lectureship and Resident Research Day
Honoring Ray J. Haddad, Jr. MD
Dr. Ray J. Haddad, Jr. provided superlative leadership to the Department of Orthopaedics as chairman from 1978 until his death in January 1990. He was loved and respected by his students and colleagues for the compassion and generosity he displayed as a professor and clinician. Dr. Haddad was a teacher to whom generations of orthopaedic surgeons owe their knowledge and skill. He served the Tulane community well during his eleven-year tenure as chief physician to its athletic teams.
To honor Dr. Haddad, this lectureship was established to enhance the orthopaedics education of local health care professionals, ranging from medical students to practicing physicians, by supporting visiting lectureships from nationally recognized scholars on both research and clinical topics.
The Rudolf Matas - Nu Sigma Nu Lectureship
Nu Sigma Nu was an international professional medical fraternity formed in 1882 "to promote scholarship, the development of better teaching, and generally in raising medical education to a higher level." The national organization was disbanded in 1973, and eventually, the Tulane Chapter closed and sold all of its assets, donating the proceeds to the Tulane School of Medicine in 1995 to create "The Rudolf Matas - Nu Sigma Nu Lectureship" endowment, which funds lectureships for five departments at Tulane University in perpetuity.
