Poster Exhibition Opening: 1700 Years of Jewish Life in German-Speaking Lands

Join the Department of German & Slavic Studies, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany (Washington, D.C.) “Campus Weeks: Time to Act” program, and the Leo Baeck Institute at the opening of our poster exhibition Monday November 8th at 1:00 pm outside 305 Newcomb Hall.

The theme of the Exhibition is “Shared History Project: 1700 Years of Jewish Life in German-Speaking Lands”. Snacks and drinks will be provided. The exhibition will remain on display until December 17, 2021.

David Brown (Leo Baeck Institute – New York/Berlin) and Joshua Teplitsky (Stony Brook University) will join us via Zoom from New York to present an overview of the Leo Baeck Institute's Shared History Project and Dr. Teplitsky's work on plagues to illustrate the complex relationships between Jews and their neighbors in German-speaking lands over the centuries. The Shared History Project tells the story of Jews in central Europe through 58 objects that illustrate how Jewish history is deeply interwoven with the peoples, regions, and countries in this region. Darensbourg, Ph.D., will read his poetry live and then engage with attendees in a Q&A session. Darensbourg is a member of the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas, a writer in residence at A Studio in the Woods, and a Monroe Fellow of New Orleans Center for the Gulf South at Tulane.
