The next informational meeting for the GCHB 6790 Food Security & Resilience summer course in Italy will take place Tuesday, February 12th from 12-1pm in the GCHB Large Conference Room (2212) on the 22nd floor of the Tidewater building. Representatives from the Financial Aid office will be there to provide information on opportunities to utilize financial aid to cover the costs of the program. We will also be talking more about the course itself and answering questions you may have. Lunch will be provided!

Dr. Papasian served as chair of the Department of Biomedical Sciences from 1998 to 2017. He currently serves as an Editor for mSphere, a journal published by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and has continuously served as an Editor or Editorial Board member for ASM journals since 1996. Dr. Papasian has received multiple teaching awards, and the UMKC-SOM established the ‘Christopher Papasian Excellence in Teaching Award’ in his honor upon his retirement in 2017.

Using his group’s national and international studies of built environments and physical activity, Dr. Sallis will describe the growth of policy-oriented research that is highly interdisciplinary in nature. He will provide a summary of what has been learned as well as related policy recommendations. He will emphasize the need, and propose several options, for translating research to practice and policy, drawing from a newly-published model. The talk will end with evidence that physical activity research is making an impact on policy and practice.
