As part of visiting professor Deniz Karakas' ARHS 3912 Islamic Art course, the artist, Munther Yousef, will be running an Arabic Calligraphy Workshop to give the participants the unique opportunity to try their hands at writing in Arabic script and discover this beautiful art form.

Munther Jumaa Yousef was born in Algeria and became interested in calligraphy in the first grade, when he learned to write with feather, quills and ink. He studied calligraphy under the tutelage of his cousin, who taught Arabic calligraphy at the University of Jordan, and attended various summer classes. He has been teaching calligraphy classes at various levels in Houston, TX. He has performed live calligraphy at Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Rice University, and Islamic Arts Exhibit in Houston City Hall.
