"The Brain Injury Association of Louisiana is proud to be the Louisiana project partner with a national organization called Unmasking Brain Injury (www.unmaskingbraininjury.org). The mission is to educate people and raise awareness about brain injuries while giving brain injury survivors a voice. The Unmasking Brain Injury initiative is happening around the world so we are thrilled to represent Louisiana.

Through this art-based project, brain injury survivors have the opportunity to express their emotions dealing with their brain injury through the creation of their own paper mache mask.  Each mask is accompanied with a brief description of the emotions they feel; why they painted the mask the way they did thus giving greater depth to each story.

Since Louisiana’s Unmasking Brain Injury art display was created in September of 2017, the exhibit has not only been eye catching but also serves as a stimulus for conversation among viewers."
