Evaluating Louisiana’s Abortion Restrictions

Please join Newcomb Institute's Reproductive Rights and Reproductive Health Internship program for a talk by researchers Dr. Kari White (University of Texas at Austin) and Dr. Sarah Roberts (University of California, San Francisco). This event is invitation-only and will take place via Zoom. 

Kari White is an Associate Professor at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and Department of Sociology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research evaluates the effects of reproductive health policies on health service delivery and people’s experiences getting care. Her recent projects include a collaborative evaluation of legislation affecting family planning funding and abortion restrictions in Texas, women’s access to abortion in the Southeast, and factors influencing vasectomy use.

Sarah CM Roberts, DrPH, is Associate Professor at ANSIRH, at the University of California, San Francisco. She studies ways policies and health care systems punish, rather than support, structurally vulnerable pregnant people, including pregnant people using alcohol and drugs and pregnant people considering abortion. Dr. Roberts' research focuses on evaluating state-level restrictive abortion policies and state-level policies targeting alcohol and drug use during pregnancy and developing an evidence-base to inform a genuine public health approach to abortion and abortion facility standards. She has published more than 80-peer reviewed manuscripts and received grant funding from the National Institutes of Health and private foundations.
