COVID-19 and Telomeres

A scientific discussion of the different pathways by which telomere dynamics may be linked to COVID-19 infection risk, disease outcome and vaccine response presented by the Telomere Research Network

This webinar will involve a series of presentations outlining theories and data linking telomeres to COVID-19 through specific disease models, COVID-19 related pathophysiology, and the relation between inflammaging and vaccine responses to other SARS viruses. An interactive discussion will follow the presentation that will provide guidance to the Telomere Research Network (TRN) for next steps in supporting telomere research in relation to the pandemic.

WHAT IS THE TRN? In September 2019, NIA and NIEHS launched the Telomere Research Network (TRN) (trn.tulane.edu) tasked with establishing best practices for the measurement of telomere length in population-based studies. Over the next five years, the TRN expects to develop and sustain an interactive scientific community focused on methodology precision, interdisciplinary high impact research, and an enhanced understanding of the role of telomeres as sentinels of psychosocial and environmental exposure and predictors of disease.
