Ramadan Supply Kit Pass Out
Ramadan is a time of getting together with family and the community to break the fast and pray together. With COVID, the New Orleans community dinners are not being held. These supply kits will serve to give both Muslim and non-Muslim students a taste of traditional foods eaten during Ramadan. These kits will further supply students with necessary items (such as the Islamic toothbrush and prayer beads) used by Muslims during Ramadan.
These kits serve to provide the students on campus with essential supplies and traditional foods eaten by fasting Muslims in Ramadan. The month of Ramadan is the holiest month of the year for Muslims. It entails a month of fasting sunrise to sunset. Traditionally, Ramadan represents a time of community coming together. Fasting alone for Muslim students on a college campus can become isolating and difficult. These kits will provide Muslim students with a piece of home by providing traditional foods as well as required materials. The kits will be available to all students to give any student insight on what Ramadan is like for Muslims. The kit includes: Beef Seekh Kebab, Miswak (an Islamic toothbrush), Falafel, Masala Noodles, Ajwa dates (the fruit required to break the fast), Cheese Pies (traditional Arab baked item), Arabic Bread, Halal Rice Krispy Treats, and Tasbih (Prayer Beads). The supply kits will be available to all for pick up in the O's Richardson building on April 12, right before Ramadan begins.
