21st Century French Politics: Shifting the Political Landscape

Event Date

Uptown Campus
Weatherhead Seminar Room

As the French presidential election approaches, many believe that France is experiencing a far-right shift in the political landscape. Since the election of Emmanuel Macron, the incumbent president, many hypothesize that France may shift toward an era of right-leaning politics as the leader of the far-right party, the National Rally, stands out as one of the main contenders for the presidency. This lecture will analyze the shift in the French political landscape that led to the heightened popularity of the far-right and discuss what this could mean for the outcome of the April elections.

What caused the citizens of the former socialist country to move to more conservative right-leaning politics? What could this mean for the upcoming elections and the future of French policy?

Please join us for an in-person event on Wednesday, December 8th, 2021 at 5 PM to hear Dr. Charles Mignot discuss the history and complexity of 21st century French Politics. We will have refreshments, a brief lecture, and a Q+A period.
