WORKSHOP: Introduction to Python

Are you interesting in learning more about Python to enhance your data literacy skills? Join us for an introduction to Python workshop designed to those with no experience or minimal experience working with Python.

This workshop will introduce participants to the following learning outcomes:

  • Differentiating between common object types - numbers (floats and integers), strings, lists, dictionaries, tuples
  • Assigning objects to nuclear and container variables
  • Conducting basic mathematical operations
  • Conducting basic mathematical operations that update a variable 
  • Differentiating between functions and methods
  • Using common list, string, number, and dictionary methods
  • Identifying Python's indexing logic
  • Using common functions such as print () 
  • Converting data types
  • Importing and accessing the Math module 
  • Use comments to add details to code

Requirements: You will need an internet connected laptop or desktop and access to Google Colab -- a free programming environment.
