Hollow Tree: Film Screening and Q&A with the Director and Three Protagonists

Hollow Tree is the debut documentary of New Orleans Center for the Gulf South 2019 Monroe Fellow Kira Akerman. The film follows three young women coming of age into a new climate reality in Southeast Louisiana. NOCGS is proud to host a screening prior to the film's official release. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film's director and three protagonists, Annabelle Pavy, Tanielma DaCosta, Mekenzie Fanguy, moderated by NOCGS Clark Executive Director Rebecca Snedeker. 

Hollow Tree recently won a Jury Prize at its premiere at the New Orleans Film Festival. Creative advisor Ken Burns calls it “extraordinary" and "asks all of us to think differently about the communities in which we live and the environments that we must respect.” The film has been supported by the Sundance Institute, the NEA, and others. Hollow Tree was produced by Monique Walton (Bull, Cannes 2019 - Un Certain Regard, Samuel Goldwyn, Sony), Chachi Hauser (The Rat, Sundance 2019). The film features Dr. Jelagat Cheruiyot, Tulane Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and is executive produced by Jolene Pinder, Visiting Assistant Professor of Strategy, Leadership, and Analytics Minor at Tulane University.
