Volunteering with Coalition to Restore Costal Louisiana
Tulane Hillel is volunteering with The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana (CRCL). Join us to plant trees in the Central Wetlands Unit! The Central Wetlands Unit was heavily impacted by historic logging and saltwater intrusion from the Mississippi Gulf Outlet (MRGO). What once was a thick and healthy swamp is now mostly marsh and open water. Following the closure of MRGO, the salinity in this area has dropped to where it can once again support cypress trees. Restoring the swamp forest will result in higher quality wildlife habitat, storm surge/wind attenuation, and healthier ecosystems.
Details:
- Transportation provided to and from Tulane Hillel (912 Broadway St.) to the Service Site
- Meet at Hillel at 8:00 AM to bus to the site together
- Snacks and Lunch will be provided (including GF, which will be catered by Rimon)
- Service will wrap at 3:00 PM. Expected arrival back to campus around 4:00 PM.
