Jay Silverman, PhD, is an Usdin Family Professor of Community Health at the Tulane University School of
Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He is a leading global health researcher on understanding and
preventing gender-based violence again adolescent and adult women (e.g., intimate partner violence,
reproductive coercion, sexual violence and sex trafficking), including development and testing of
community and health service-based interventions to reduce gender-based violence and improve
sexual, reproductive, and maternal and child health. He has led multiple major federally, foundation and
UN-funded studies and published over 240 peer-reviewed papers on these topics.
