Anthropology and Linguistics Joint Graduate Student Pre-Final Check-In Gathering
The Anthropology and Linguistics Joint Graduate Student Pre-Final Check-In Gathering aims to foster interdisciplinary connections among graduate students from the departments of Anthropology and Linguistics. Scheduled for November 15th from 5:30 to 7 PM, we anticipate an attendance of 45 participants, comprising current students, new entrants, and some faculty members.
This gathering marks the first funding request for an event this semester from either department, emphasizing its significance in enhancing community engagement. With a total expenditure of $300, the cost per participant is approximately $6.60, demonstrating our commitment to providing an accessible and enriching experience for all attendees.
The event serves as a crucial pre-finals morale booster, allowing students to connect with peers and professors before the end of the semester. We recognize that many students have not yet met the ten new members of our cohort or have had limited interactions with colleagues outside of their immediate classes. This gathering is designed to bridge that gap, encouraging dialogue and collaboration across the various subfields of anthropology and linguistics.
Additionally, the event will provide an opportunity for students to discuss their final projects and prepare for upcoming comprehensive exams, thereby facilitating a supportive academic environment. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds, we aim to cultivate a sense of community and belonging within our programs. This event is not only a meaningful social gathering for graduate students, but also a strategic initiative to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, enhance communication among graduate students, and foster a stronger academic community within our departments.
