Transformative Lenses: Four Contemporary Brazilian photographers illustration

Transformative Lenses: Four Contemporary Brazilian Photographers brings together the work of four internationally renowned documentary photographers: Rogério Assis, João Farkas, Rosa Gauditano, and Edu Simões. Beginning in the late 1970s and with distinct approaches to their art, each offers compelling visions of Brazil’s people and their layered identities, urban and rural environments, cultural traditions, social fabric, and evolving sense of place.

The exhibition also features a selection of extraordinary historical images of Brazil from the sixteenth to the twentieth centuries housed in the library’s rare book collection. Many are first editions of iconic images that have constructed and shaped European perceptions of the country.
