The Ecuadorian rainforest hums with bright sounds and reflections, sounds that can be heard nowhere else and are in threat of disappearing.
Learn about acoustic ecology and hear the soundscapes of the Chocó biogeographic zone, a critical hotspot of global concern. This session incorporates field recordings taken by undergraduate student Sabine Greeson at the Fundación para la Conservación de los Andes Tropicales (FCAT), an Ecuadorian rainforest conservation NGO, as part of the Tulane Interdisciplinary Environmental Research and Action (TIERA) program in the summer of 2025. Come to hear the forest, songs from the FCAT field station, and local perspectives on conservation.

Intentional Listening is an annual springtime monthly series that invites you to experience listening in a way that moves beyond the daily cacophony to hear our world with curiosity and intention. This spring's series focuses and the sounds of our natural and built environment.
