Award-winning historian Nikki L. Brown examines global Black diasporas through oral history and digital humanities. Her forthcoming project, "From Kenya to Crete to Istanbul: A Memoir of a Family Enslaved," brings activist Musafa Olpak's memoir to an English-language audience, pairing a new translation with a critical introduction that frames his life as central to understanding Afro-Turk history and the legacies of Ottoman slavery. Dr. Brown situates Afro-Turk history within the wider circuits linking eastern Africa, the Ottoman Empire, the Mediterranean, and modern Turkey.
