Exploring the 1927 Mississippi River Flood

Teachers from the Greater New Orleans area will:

•Examine human contributions to the disaster, including levee design and land use
decisions.
• Understand the historical context of the Mississippi River in the early 20th century
(economy, agriculture, settlement patterns).
• Analyze how the flood reshaped U.S. flood control policy and infrastructure (levee
systems, federal involvement)
