Researching with Print Based Objects in the Tulane University Rare Book Collection
Learn how collections of rare books and other printed materials can be used in your undergraduate or graduate research. This hands-on introductory workshop introduces the fundamentals of rare books and book history research through the guided examination of rare books. Participants will learn how to identify key bibliographic features, trace provenance, interpret physical evidence, and use catalogs and reference sources to better understand how books were produced, owned, circulated, and understood over time.
Whether you are a student, researcher, collector, or simply curious about the history of books, this workshop will provide practical skills and tools to help you read rare books as historical artifacts and begin your own book history investigations.
No prior experience with rare books or bibliography is required.
