Tulane’s Moot Court Board, with the help of the Sports Law Society and the Sports Lawyers Journal staff, hosts the annual Mardi Gras National Moot Court Competition, the only annual moot court competition in the country that focuses on contemporary legal problems confronting the sports industry.

The final round of the moot court competition is judged by a panel of “celebrity” judges. In the past, these judges have included Don Fehr, Executive Director of the NHL Players Association, Richard Berthelson, General Counsel of the NFL Players Association, Stan Kasten, Former President of the Atlanta Hawks, Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Braves, and Washington Nationals, Andrew Brandt, ESPN Business Analysis and Lecturer at Wharton Sports Business Initiative, and many others.

The initial rounds of the competition are held at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana and the semi-finals and final rounds are held at the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. The competition draws the best law schools and moot court programs in the country and takes place during one of the most exciting times in New Orleans, MARDI GRAS!
