Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

In exchange for funding, Boren Scholars commit to working in the federal government in areas that support national security for at least one year after graduation.  Boren Scholarships promote long term linguistic and cultural immersion, and therefore study abroad proposals for two or more semesters are strongly encouraged. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants proposing a at least 6 months overseas.

Aleia Maculam, Program Officer with the Boren Awards, will be on campus to offer more information on the program and to answer your questions about the program: Please join us for a discussion on the Boren Awards Programs on Tuesday, November 27, at 3:30 in Room 203 of Cudd Hall.

The campus deadline for this award is Monday, January 7, so if you are considering applying for the Boren Scholarship, don’t miss this meeting!  For further information, contact Dr. Jennifer Beers, Coordinator for Nationally Competitive Scholarships in the Honors Program, at jbeers@tulane.edu.
