Wilfred McClay holds the G.T. & Libby Blankenship Chair in the History of Liberty at the University of Oklahoma.  He is a Senior Scholar at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington and has served as a member of the National Council on the Humanities. 

His books include The Masterless: Self and Society in Modern America (1994, winner of the Merle Curti Award of the Organization of American Historians), Religion Returns to the Public Square (2003), Figures in the Carpet: Finding the Human Person in the American Past (2007), and most recently, Land of Hope (Amazon #1 best seller in “Historical Study and Teaching”).  Professor McClay taught in the Tulane History Department from 1987 to 1999.
