With a collection of more than 100,000 unique artifacts from the Soviet Bloc countries during the Cold War the Wende Museum is one of the leading museums of its kind worldwide. The museum not only collects and preserves materials that offer insight into political realities, cultural trends, and everyday life, but also aims to present them in a thought-provoking way, making connections between past and present and asking pertinent questions about how history is written and experienced. In his presentation, Joes Segal will focus on the East German holdings of the collection and show how the museum through its exhibition program tries to realize its mission.
