Getting Ready to Write your Dissertation

This workshop hosted by Tulane University Libraries aims to support first and second-year graduate and professional students by discussing different stages and processes involved in writing a theses or dissertation. We will introduce key topics, resources, and strategies that will increase students' efficiency during the preparation, research, and writing phases. Students will walk away knowing how to locate theses/dissertations from Tulane and elsewhere, strategic reading strategies to increase retention, and the tools available to organize and then utilize your research.

Planning a Digital Scholarship Project

Before you choose a tool or determine an approach for your digital scholarship project, there are several considerations to make and questions to answer. This session will connect you with experts who can offer critical guidance and support, as well as provide a checklist approach for each step along the way. 

During the first hour we will focus on general considerations for developing a digital scholarship project. The last half hour will allow for one-on-one consultations and discussion.

Organize and Cite Your Research Using Zotero

Zotero is a free tool to help you collect, organize, cite, and share your research sources. In this workshop hosted by Tulane University Libraries, you will install Zotero, add sources to your library, learn the basics of organizing and managing, and create a bibliography in the citation style of your choice. Students will use Zotero to capture sources, including full-text, organize their collection, modify items, and output a bibliography manually and using word processor integration.

Advanced Features of EndNote X9

Participants who are already familiar with EndNote X9 will learn how to get the most out of this powerful citation management tool. Learn the different ways that researchers can use EndNote X9 to share references with other researchers, import PDFs, find and change citation styles, use the EndNote Manuscript Matcher, and more.

Requirements: Familiarity with EndNote X9 is required. To learn the basics of EndNote X9, attend the introductory workshop.

Finding Grants or Funding Opportunities in Research

Tulane University provides a lot of specialized resources and services to identify funding opportunities to support your projects, research, job. In this workshop hosted by Tulane University Libraries, we will use some of the more "traditional" to investigate funding opportunities relevant to your field. We will also go outside the box and investigate creative ways to find relevant funding and grant opportunities that you may never have considered!

Introduction to GIS with Policy Map

Learn how to use Policy Map, an easy-to-use web-based Geographic Information System (GIS), to create maps of the United States down to the Census block group in many cases. Available data includes demographics, home sale statistics, health data, mortgage trends, school performance scores, and labor data like unemployment, crime statistics, and city crime rates.
