Corporate & Securities Roundtable

Tulane Law Professor Ann Lipton annually gathers corporate and securities scholars from around the country to explore changes in the industry following Tulane's Corporate Law Institute March 14-15. At this year's Roundtable March 16, from 8:30 to 5 p.m., more than a dozen scholars from around the country will discuss women in mergers and accquistions, the role of shareholder votes in mergers and acquisitions, mandatory shareholder disclosures and securities enforcement, among other relevant topics.

How Are States Responding to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act?

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) dramatically cut corporate tax rates, significantly changed individual income tax calculations, and curtailed numerous deductions and allowances. These federal changes also had a significant but varied effect on state corporate and individual income tax systems and taxpayers, but those effects depended on how states responded to the new federal tax law.

"The Origins of the Suburban Crisis"

Thomas J. Sugrue is Professor of Social and Cultural Analysis and History at NYU. A specialist in twentieth-century American politics, urban history, civil rights, and race, Sugrue was educated at Columbia; King's College, Cambridge; and Harvard, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1992. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, an elected member of the Society of American Historians, and past president of both the Urban History Association and the Social Science History Association.

Fall 2018 Yates Lecture: Mihir A. Desai

The Fall 2018 Mary C. Parker Yates Lecture will feature Mihir A. Desai, the Mizuho Financial Group Professor of Finance at Harvard Business School and a Professor of Law at Harvard Law School.  He is the author of The Wisdom of Finance, which explores the intersection between finance and the humanities, a frequent contributor to popular media such as the New York Times, Financial Times, and NPR, and is considered a leading expert on corporate tax reform.

Varieties of Labor Politics: Teacher Mobilization in Latin America

The Political Science Department in association with the Murphy Institute and the Center for Inter-American Policy and Research is proud to begin the 2018-19 Political Science Seminar series with a presentation by Christopher Chambers-Ju (CIPR post-doctoral fellow) called: "Varieties of Labor Politics: Teacher Mobilization in Latin America" on Friday, October 19th from 5:00-6:30 pm, at Dinwiddie Hall, Room 108.
