Ramadan is the fasting month for Muslims. The iftar is the meal eaten after sunset when breaking the fast. This event will be an event where we will pass out traditional iftar foods to all students who sign up for the pickup. We will be catering this iftar from a halal restaurant, NOLA Desi Kitchen. We will pass out the food in the Office of Multicultural Affair's Richardson Building.
In Islam, the holy month of Ramadan is a period where Muslims fast from sunrise till sunset. Fasting is important because it is one of the five pillars of Islam. Iftaar is a fast opening meal for Muslims. It takes place at sunrise. In order to support all fasting students at Tulane during Ramadan, we are providing support in the form of iftar. We want to create a sense of community and provide support to fasting students.

Ramadan is a time of getting together with family and the community to break the fast and pray together. With COVID, the New Orleans community dinners are not being held. These supply kits will serve to give both Muslim and non-Muslim students a taste of traditional foods eaten during Ramadan. These kits will further supply students with necessary items (such as the Islamic toothbrush and prayer beads) used by Muslims during Ramadan.
