Music Rising at Tulane presents Women and Movement #4: This Little Light: An Evening with Directors/Producers Wendi Moore-O'Neal and Ada McMahon. This event will include a film screening, Q&A with Wendi and Ada, and conclude with a Community Sing, led by Wendi Moore-O'Neal.

Music Rising at Tulane invites you to Women and Movement #3: African American Women Affecting the Arts in New Orleans.

Four African American women will discuss what they think about the state of contemporary art(s) in New Orleans. This discussion will include consideration of the state of visual arts, music, literature, and the performing arts in this region. This conversation will also consider the politics of race, artistic agency, and artistic opportunity.

The panel will be moderated by actor, director, and producer Lauren Turner.

The Maternal and Child Health Coalition is a group of individuals and community organizations dedicated to advocating for improved health services for women and children in New Orleans. Due to the dire statistics concerning birth outcomes, particularly for women of color, in the New Orleans community, the coalition is requesting that the City Council and Mayor’s Office re-establish an office of maternal and child health within city government to monitor this crisis and implement interventions to improve how women give birth in this city.

Greta LaFleur is Assistant Professor of American Studies. Her research and teaching focus on early North American literary and cultural studies, the history of science, the history of race, the history and historiography of sexuality, and queer studies. Her first book, The Natural History of Sexuality in Early America (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2018), brings together the history of sexuality and early environmental studies to explore how sexual behaviors were understood in the eighteenth-century Atlantic world.

Think of a job fair but run by the students that interned at the job sites. Come to this event to get to talk directly with your peers about their summer internship, seek application advice, and hear how they found grants to support unpaid/minimally paid opportunities. 

Are you interested in getting a grant to support your summer internship, research, etc? This is the session for you. Come learn from the people that review grants and budgets to ensure you submit strong applications. This event is being hosted by NCI, NTC, Taylor Center, and the Stone Center. 

If you have signed up to participate in NCI's Women to Women Mentoring Program and/or Job Shadowing Day, you must attend one of these mandatory sessions. 

Come over to the NCI House (7025 Freret St.) anytime between 12:30-1:30 PM to have lunch and meet fellow students and NCI staff. This program is open to all students, and students are also welcomed and encouraged to study at the NCI House anytime we are open. Food will be supplied until it runs out. For finals week, there will be extended hours for a craft study break.
