The Gender Digital Divide and Gender Gaps in Collective Action

Jakana Thomas is an associate professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS) and the University of California San Diego Department of Political Science. Her research focuses on political violence with an emphasis on the behavior of violent non-state actors. Her recent projects examine women’s participation in rebel, terrorist, and community-based violent organizations, how violence influences conflict resolution, the correlates of terrorist lethality, and the determinants of successful peace processes.

A Book Talk for Denied: Women, Sports, and the Contradictions of Identity

t’s an exciting time for women’s basketball. But like all social institutions, the institution of sport is a place where inequities can be perpetuated, particularly for women athletes. In this talk, Dr. Michelle Manno will discuss how race, gender, and sexuality shape the everyday experiences of women athletes, particularly those who are Black, queer, and express gender non-normatively.
