The Holocaust and the American Theater 1933-1965 (and beyond)

Using photographs, audio and video files, this presentation will cover the response of the American Theater to the Holocaust. The program will begin in the early 1930s, and continue through the post-war era where there was a renewed interest in depicting those terrible years through performance art. A few works post-1965 will also be discussed including works on Broadway this season. (2024) There will also be a mention of refugees who fled to America from Europe and used their artistic talents to warn the world of what was happening.

 

A Conversation with Holocaust Survivor Rose (Raisa) Lefkowitz Rosenkranz

Join Rose Rosenkranz, a Holocaust survivor and “miracle baby” born in a Siberian Slave Labor Camp in the heart of the war, as she shares her story of resilience and hope. The Grant Center for the American Jewish Experience at Tulane University will present an evening of powerful narratives and personal reflections of life in the United States after the Holocaust.

Favrot Lecture with Dr. Steven Epstein: A Quest For Sexual Health

Conjoining “sexual” with “health” changes both terms: it alters how we conceive of sexuality and transforms what it means to be healthy, prompting new expectations of what medicine can provide. Offering an entryway into the distinctive worlds of sexual health and a window onto their spillover effects, sociologist Steven Epstein traces the development of the concept and parses the debates that swirl around it.
