International Guitar Festival - Elías Barreiro Young Artists Competition, Preliminary Round

The Elias Barreiro Young Artist Competition brings young guitarists together from all over the world to showcase their talent. Winners of past competitions have gone on to have successful careers and have performed on important stages around the world. This competition is named after our own legendary Maestro Barreiro, who is the performer, arranger and educator who established the classical guitar program at Tulane University and who created the classical guitar scene in our beloved city.

International Guitar Festival - José Ángel Pérez Puentes & Rafael Padron

José Angel Perez Puentes is a Cuban musician recognized as an outstanding guitarist, composer, conductor of orchestras, symphonic bands and guitar and chamber ensembles. He is an experienced pedagogue naturalized as an Ecuadorian citizen since December 8, 1991. During the span of his career, he has trained, tutored and taught more than 100 guitarists and musicians who are considered today to have high professional careers.

International Guitar Festival - Brian King

Brian King is a New Orleans-based classical guitarist whose innovative performances, arrangements, and compositions have stretched the boundaries of classical music while bringing the genre to a wider audience. He studied guitar at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts and went on to receive a Bachelors in Music from Oberlin Conservatory and a Masters in Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

2024 Gulf Coast Connections

Tulane University's New Orleans Center for the Gulf South, Environmental Studies program, and Center for Public Service, in collaboration with Rice University’s Center for Environmental Studies, are proud to announce the third annual Gulf Coast Connections. On March 1st and 2nd, scholars, non-profit leaders, artists, and architects from across the Gulf Coast will gather on Tulane's campus to learn from each other and foster new collaborations.

Classics Colloquium

The Department of Classical Studies presents the second annual Classics Colloquium on April 13, 2024.

The Colloquium is designed to help undergraduate students refine their conference-style presentation skills in a friendly, low-stakes, and supportive environment.
