International Short Film Festival Spring 2024

Are you a fan of short films? Exciting news awaits! The International Short Film Festival is just around the corner, offering a captivating lineup of original storytelling and fresh perspectives. The event will feature four international short films in four languages.

Drepung Gomang Monastery Sand Mandala

The Asian Studies Program, in partnership with the Howard-Tilton Library, is proud to host the monks of Drepung Gomang Monastery as they create a sand mandala. An ancient art form of Tibetan Buddhism, mandalas are drawings in sand of the world in its divine form and represent a map by which the ordinary human mind is transformed into the enlightened mind.

Chanda Prescod-Weinstein: The Disordered Cosmos - Lecture

The Africana Studies Program introduces to campus an ongoing series, Black Studies Book Club. Each semester, BSBC brings a scholar whose recent publication has shifted the conversation in Africana Studies to campus to give a public lecture and discuss their recent work (free and open to everyone). Our sixth Black Studies Book Club Scholar is Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, who will be speaking about her book The Disordered Cosmos on Thursday, February, 22 at Tulane University. There will be a reception following the lecture.

Please join Africana Studies for the Black Studies Book Club meeting, featuring Chanda Prescod-Weinstein in discussion of her book The Disordered Cosmos, on Friday, February 23 at 12:00 pm at Tulane University, masks will be required during the discussion portion. Lunch will be served from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. This is part of an ongoing series sponsored by Africana Studies, which features scholars whose recent publications have shifted the conversation in our field.

Thursday Night Jazz

The Newcomb Department of Music furthers its mission of introducing students to New Orleans culture with Thursday Night Jazz, a series of concerts held in the Dixon Annex Recital Hall. Hosted and curated by Black American Music faculty, each live performance features students and faculty from Tulane's Black American Music program, and includes performances by visiting artist and local New Orleans musicians. This series welcomes the community to observe the mentoring process between professional artists of New Orleans and university students learning their craft.

Navigating the Crossroads: American-Israeli Relations Post October 7th

Join Dr. Ilana Horwitz and Elhanan Brown for a conversation about American-Israeli relations in the aftermath of October 7th. Drawing on his deep knowledge of both Israeli and American cultures, as well as Abrahamic religions, Elhanan will provide a comprehensive perspective on the multifaceted aspects shaping the contemporary relationship between the two nations. Elhanan will discuss the historical tapestry of the geopolitical relationship between Israel and the United States, offering a nuanced understanding of its evolution.
