Human Trafficking Documentary and Q&A

Join us for a documentary and Q&A on sex trafficking in America designed to raise awareness and initiate change. The event will showcase the documentary "Very Young Girls." The film follows the work of Rachel Lloyd, a former sexually exploited youth-turned-activist who started the organization GEMS (Girls Educational and Mentoring Services) in New York to help victimized young women escape trafficking situations. The films follows ten teenage girls at different stages in the transition out of trafficking.

Mellon Sawyer Seminar: Screening of The Neutral Ground (2021)

Tulane University's Mellon Sawyer Seminar, hosted by the Newcomb Art Department, will screen CJ Hunt's documentary film The Neutral Ground (2021). The documentary is about memory, monuments, and how to break up with the confederacy. It documents the struggle in the city of New Orleans over Confederate monuments and will serve as the kick-off event for the April Sawyer Seminar (April 5-10, 2022) on Monumental Iconoclasms, which considers contemporary challenges to existing monuments in New Orleans and Mexico City.

Film Screening & Interview with Producer, Robert Fyvolent

Academy Award nominee, producer, and Tulane Alum Robert Fyvolent will be on campus for a Q&A and free screening of Summer of Soul, Wednesday, March 16th at 5:30 pm in room 210, Stone Auditorium in the Woldenbberg Art Center.  Moderated by Melissa A. Weber, Tulane University Special Collections and sponsored by SLA Digital Media Practices and distributor Searchlight Pictures.
